Francavilla has been a popular seaside resort since the 1800s and boasts one of the finest, sandy beaches on the Abruzzo coast. Its population exceeds 24,000 and the town offers plenty of restaurants, bars and shops for both holiday makers and inhabitants to enjoy.
It is situated between the rivers of Alento and Foro and the ancient part of the town developed on a hill, overlooking the Adriatic. Although rich in historical, artistic and architectural heritage, much of the centre was destroyed during WW2 and has since been rebuilt.
The town is home to many festivals and events during the year, the most famous is the Fireworks on the Sea which takes place, each August. The pyrotechnics, which attract large crowds, illuminate the night sky, sea and sand.
There is a wide, purpose-built esplanade which runs next to the beautiful beach. It is perfect for walking, jogging and gentle cycling. There are many Lidos which border the pathway serving cold drinks, ice creams and an impressive choice of fresh seafood. Great for lunch!
Francavilla-s central location makes it a perfect base for exploring the Mountain Parks, Trabocchi Coast and the bustling town of Pescara which is minutes away by bus or train. It is even possible to walk!
